Crochet yourself a tiny Sobble, the water-type starter from the Galar region: Pokemon Sword and Shield!
Some interesting Pokedex information about Sobble: it is able to change it’s own colors when in water to hide, like a chameleon. When it gets embarrassed, it secrets water (like sweat) from its body and uses it to disappear by camouflage. Sobble’s tears can make others cry with the effect of 100 onions.

Instructions written in quotations are to be repeated as many times as indicated. For example, “Sc 1, Inc” x 2 is equivalent to : Sc 1, Inc, Sc 1, Inc.
“Sc 1, Inc” around means keep repeating Sc 1, Inc, Sc 1, Inc, Sc 1, Inc, etc. until the end of the round is reached.
Head
Begin with Turquoise Blue:
R1. 6 Sc in MR (6)
R2. Inc around (12)
R3. “Sc 1, inc” around (18)
R4. “Sc 2, inc” around (24)
In the next rounds, alternate between Turquoise (TQ) colored yarn and Light Blue (LB) colored yarn as indicated:
R5. TQ: Sc 12, LB: Sc 1, TQ: Sc 11 (24)
R6. TQ: Sc 11, LB: Sc 3, TQ: Sc 10 (24)
R7-R9. TQ: Sc 10, LB: Sc 6, TQ: Sc 8 (24) for three rounds
R10. TQ: “Sc 2, dec” x2, Sc 2, LB: Sc 6, TQ: dec, Sc 2, dec, Sc 2 (20)
R11. TQ: “Sc 1, dec” x 2, Sc 1, LB: Dec, Sc 4, Dec, TQ: Sc 1, Dec, Sc 2 (15)
R12. TQ: Dec x 3, LB: Dec, Sc 1, Dec, TQ: Dec x 2 (8).
F/o, close opening.
Body
Using Turquoise Blue:
R1. 6 Sc in MR (6)
R2. Inc around (12)
R3. “Sc 1, Inc” around (18)
R4-R10. Sc around (18) for seven rounds
R11. “Sc 1, Dec” around (12)
R12. “Sc 1, Dec” around (8)
F/o. and close opening.
Hands, Arms, Feet
Using Turquoise- make 2 of each:
“Hand”: Ch 3. In 2nd chain from hook: Sl st. x 2.
Repeat again to make the second ‘finger’: Ch 3, in 2nd ch from hook: Sl st x2.
Arm: Ch 6, in 2nd ch from hook: Sl St. x 5. F/o and weave in/hide loose end
“Feet”: Ch 3, in 2nd ch from hook Sl st x 2. F/o and leave a tail to sew to thigh.
Thigh
Using Turquoise – Make 2:
R1. 4 Sc in MR (4)
R2. Inc, Sc 3 (5)
R3-R4. Sc around (5) for two rounds
R5. Dec, Sc 3 (4)
F/o and close opening
Tail
Begin with Dark Blue:
R1. 6 Sc in MR (6)
R2. Sc around (6)
R3. “Sc 2, Inc” twice around (8)
R4-R5. Sc around (8) for 2 rounds
Change to Light Blue color:

R22-R25. Sc around (12) for 4 rounds
R26. “Sc 5, Inc” twice around (14)
R27. Sc around (14)
F/o, do not close opening, leave a tail to sew to the body. Stuff lightly and “roll” the tail inwards to form a curled shape like a snails shell. Sew the rolled tail in place.
Head Crest
Begin making 2 pieces, which will be joined. Using yellow:
Small (lower) piece:
R1. 4 Sc in MR (4)
R2. “Sc 1, inc” twice around (6)
R3. Sc around (6) F/o.
Large (higher) piece:
R1. 4 Sc in MR (4)
R2. “Sc 1, Inc” twice around (6)
R3. “Sc 2, Inc” twice around (8)
R4. Sc around (8)
R5. “Sc 3, Inc” twice around (10)
Now, join the pieces by continuing on to work in the stitches ‘where you left off’ of the small piece:
R7. Sc around [Sc 6 on small piece, Sc 10 on large piece] (16)
R8. “Sc 6, Dec” twice around (14)
R9. “Sc 5, Dec” twice around (12)
R10. “Sc 4, Dec” twice around (10)
R11. “Sc 3, Dec” twice around (8)
R12. Dec around (4)
F/o, leave a tail to sew to head.
Using dark blue, stitch a stripe across the top of the head crest using either surface crocheting, or a layer of Sl stitches working along the top side of the higher headpiece.
Assembly of Crochet Sobble
Assemble as shown in pictures- be sure to pin limbs in place before sewing in place.
Head: Sew the yellow head fin to the tip of the head. Sew the head onto the top of the body.
Appendages: sew the hands to the end of the arms, and feet to the thighs.
Body: Sew the stomach to the front of the body. Attach the arms to either side of the body at shoulder level. Attach the tail to the back of the body and thighs to either side of the stomach- arrange the tail and legs such that Sobble is able to sit up balanced between these 3 limbs.
Facial details (eyes and cheeks) were added by needle felting loose yarn ends . Alternatively, felt pieces can be cut out and glued on. The eyes and cheeks are placed over the color changes of R7 of the head.
